Here’s something that didn’t make it to the judicial inquiry

Corrupt police inspector Daniel Zammit and Paceville boss Hugo Chetcuti, who the inquiring judge described as “a person of dubious character with a penal record that speaks for itself”, were so close that they, together with Zammit’s then wife Gaby, described themselves as a “team”.

Photocopies of screen-shots taken from Gaby Zammit’s Facebook page in 2009 arrived anonymously in the post at my home. They show Daniel Zammit sitting between his then wife – whose father is Malta’s ambassador to the Vatican, George Buttigieg – and Hugo Chetcuti, drinking and celebrating.

In one photograph they are with others, and in the other photo, Daniel Zammit and Hugo Chetcuti are together.

The caption is ‘Xmas Team Meal 09’.

What team? We know that they set up a company together – Diabolik Entertainment Ltd – but that wasn’t until a year after those photographs were taken. So they had some other business going then that nobody in the press knows about yet and which was not revealed by the inquiry.

It is perfectly obvious from these photographs that Daniel Zammit and Hugo Chetcuti have been embroiled together for even longer, and more closely, that we thought.

Gaby Zammit – now back to Buttigieg – would have removed anything to do with her husband from her Facebook page when they split up almost three years ago. Which means that whoever took those screen shots may well have done so as far back as five years ago and kept then until now.

Whoever sent them to me now may well have sent them to the Commissioner of Police back in 2010, which is when Daniel Zammit was relieved of his duties at Police HQ, disciplined and deployed to the Valletta Police Station.

And then Zammit had the nerve to tell the inquiring judge (who obviously thought it ridiculous) that his relationship with Hugo Chetcuti was “one of hello and goodbye”. So that’s why they were in business together.
