Representatives of the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, which is blacklisted from state tendering because of corruption and espionage in many parts of the developed and developing world, were seen visiting the head office of Malta’s main telecoms provider Go, yesterday.
Emirates International Telecommunications (Malta) Ltd – a subsidiary of Dubai corporation Tecom Investments – announced yesterday that it is selling its majority stake of 60% in Go plc “in the short term”.
Huawei has just set up an office in Malta, ostensibly for the research and development of 5G.
It is not known (yet) whether Huawei’s visit to Go plc has any connection with Tecom Investment’s plans to sell its stake in the company.
