Mario Gennaro is best friends with Francesco ‘Red Ferrari’ Ario
Mario Gennaro, the key official of one of the Malta-registered internet gaming companies used to launder money for the ‘Ndrangheta (the key official of the other ‘Ndrangheta-laundering gaming company is John Dalli’s henchman Iosif Galea) is best friends with Francesco Airo.
Ario owns the red Ferrari frequently seen driven by corrupt Police Inspector Daniel Zammit. Zammit and his brother Roderick, another police inspector, are in business with Airo, who is Sicilian, and last May incorporated a company in which he and they are shareholders.
When Manuel Mallia became Police Minister in 2013, Daniel Zammit was deployed at his request to the Economic Crimes Unit while his brother Roderick was deployed to the Money-Laundering Unit, also at his request. A year later, their father – who knew of their corruption and was actually involved in at least two companies with them – was appointed acting Police Commissioner by the same Manuel Mallia.
Mario Gennaro is currently in prison in Malta awaiting extradition to Italy. Before that, he would frequently be seen socialising with Francesco Airo, spending lots of time particularly at Hugo Chetcuti’s bar, Hugo’s Passion, buying container loads of pedestrian champagne.
