It’s all due to intense loneliness among crowds

I so enjoyed this piece in The Sunday Times of Malta yesterday. But after I’d finished laughing at the painful truth of it, I realised that it actually portrayed rather a sad picture of intense loneliness.

And that in turn made me realise that all those Maltese people – men and women, but mainly women – clogging up Facebook with their attention-seeking photos, quotes and anecdotes are just plain, old lonely, even though they move around in herds and hang about constantly in cliques.

They are constantly with people but everything is kept superficial. Friends are not really friends but are the means to an end of a social life or an entrée into other houses or groups. They are tools or accessories, or both.
