The Law Commissioner needs to grow up

I have received yet another one of many messages telling me that the 41-year-old Law Commissioner “qisu tifel” returns home to his parents’ house in Hal Ghaxaq after a night out at 11pm in winter and between 11.30pm and midnight in summer, after first depositing his long-standing girlfriend of more than a decade at her own parents’ home in Zejtun.

After a little while, routinely, and when he thinks the coast is clear (how can the coast ever be clear when you live in Hal Ghaxaq and have police sentries on changing shifts outside your door) he then re-emerges from his parents’ house and goes out, returning to his parents’ home in the early hours of the morning.

As the latest person to message me about it (yesterday morning) put it:

La imur jixtri pakkett sigaretti ghax ma jpejjipx u lanqas imur ghand l-gharusa. Jerga jigi biex jorqod id-dar biex il-mama u l-gharusa ma jkunux jafu li hareg. Veru bhat-tfal.

Marry her, Mr Law Commissioner, set up home with her, or break it off. A man in his 40s who has been literally dating the same woman for more than a decade and who drops her off at her parents’ house every night and returns to his parents’ house is, not to put too fine a point on it, totally weird.

Not that we needed this to know that.
