How’s this for a male-dominated society?

Here it is: the ultimate proof that all talk of being liberal, progressive, feminist & c is just so much hogwash and that Maltese society is still mired in chauvinism and misogyny.

We take domination of all power-structures by men and only men completely for granted and don’t even look askance at it.

Statistics have been released on the number of women in the parliaments of all European Union member states this year and, what a surprise, Malta is second from the bottom – which is Hungary, where more than two-thirds of the parliament is taken up by the (far) right party of Viktor Orban.

Cyprus is almost neck-and-neck with Malta in this race to the bottom, while Romania hovers just above. But the point is, even backward Romania beats Malta on this score.
