Norman and Arlette mark the Great White Christian Maltese victory over Muslim Turkish darkies
There is a disproportionate number of women in public life in Malta who went to St Dorothy’s Convent – disproportionate to the point of being remarkable – but Arlette Baldacchino of Imperium Europa just has to be the most excruciatingly embarrassing example of how those qualities can go badly wrong.
Imperium Europa’s commemoration of the 450th anniversary of the ending of the “Great Siege” is, however, the best possible illustration of how wrong-headed it is to celebrate it at all in the contemporary context as a victory over Turks and Muslims. It was never about religion anyway – it was about who had control of the sea for piracy and trade.
But to get back to the point – how very ridiculous Norman Lowell and his girlfriend Arlette Baldacchino are. Really and truly.
