Our friends in Baku

Azerbaijan, which owns 33% of Malta’s new power-station-in-the-making, has told a European Commission delegation that it is no longer welcome to visit the country as planned.
The dictatorship in Baku also said that it might “review relations” with the European Union after the European Parliament demanded that it release the journalist Khadiya Ismayilova and human rights activists from prison.
“The decision to cancel the (European Commission) visit is linked to a biased resolution on Azerbaijan,” the Azeri foreign ministry said in a statement. “In general, we should review our ties with the European Union, where anti-Azeri and anti-Islam tendencies are strong.”
