Identity cards on the electoral roll are public information, and taking the time and trouble to run some random searches – are the police doing this, or are they waiting for things to fall into their laps? – shows that the racket in fake addresses is massive.

There are about 50 flats, concentrated in the harbour area, where there are more than 10 non-Maltese citizens, who appear to be unrelated to each other, registered as living under one roof.

Yes, more than 10 registered to the same flat, and a random search has thrown up 50 of these flats.

Here are just some of them:

1. 53 people registered at flat 4, Verdala Flats, Salvu Privitera Street, St Julian’s

2. 34 people registered at flat 2, 122, Santa Margerita Street, San Gwann

3. 26 people registered at flat 1, Bayside Lodge, Ross Street, St Julian’s

4. 20 people registered at 166, Triq Nazju Ellul, Gzira

5. 20 people registered at 61, St Lazarus Street, Cospicua

There are very many more. None of the above include Third Country (non-EU) citizens, because the electoral roll does not include the identity card information of those who cannot vote in either general elections or local council elections.

Access to identity card information of non-EU citizens is likely to show – if the numbers given in the news report detailed in my previous post are a good indicator – that that the fake address racket is larger still among non-EU citizens.
