Astrid’s Ghost Tour

As the island sinks under the weight of corruption in building development, Astrid Vella – until 2013 the Boadicea of baroque buildings in Stella Maris parish, Sliema – is busy organising a ghost tour of Valletta.

This is from an email which I received.

On All Hallows’ Eve, when one asks trick or treat, join FAA to experience Valletta’s Ghost Tour. Guided by our experienced tour guide, we will explore the City’s known spooky spots. Layers of history are peeled away to bring to life the ghosts of the past.

Another FAA quality event, the Ghost Tour will commence at 19:30hrs on both Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October. We will be meeting at De Valette statue at Pjazza de Vallette (between the open theatre and St Catherine’s church) and the tour will take 1.5 hrs.

Date/time: 30 and 31 October 2015, meeting at 19:15. Tour departs at 19:30 sharp. Tickets: 12 Euros. Purchase tickets online at: https://ticketengine.faa.org.mt/.

Costumes are welcome. Bring candles or lanterns to light your way! Please book early as numbers are limited.

No offence meant to my own kind (sorry, darlings) but I’m trying to picture a bunch of tal-pepe Sliema matrons and their braying or completely silent husbands trailing behind Astrid Vella wearing costumes and carrying lanterns on a Friday or Saturday night when the streets are packed with tipsy revellers and crowds of young people from the other side of the harbour.

And I would love to be there when Astrid and her costumed, lantern-bearing entourage walks past the crowd outside Charles Grech. This kind of thing really appeals to my very wicked sense of humour.
