Deputy prime minister, running late as usual, drives right down Republic Street through the crowds

Published: October 16, 2015 at 4:31pm

The deputy prime minister (Louis Grech, lest you’ve forgotten) was running very, very late this morning for a big ceremonial thingie in St John’s Square.

He staved off the embarrassment with a good dose of arrogance and told his chauffeur to take a short cut through the main gate to the city and right down Republic Street to the cathedral.

His official car was preceded by two ridiculous-looking police officers mounted on Segways (ma jmurx jghajjew, msieken), shooing morning shoppers out of the way.

But Louis Grech is very unassuming (“humble”) – look at him sitting in the front next to his chauffeur. So very democratic – or maybe he gets car-sick in the back.

So he sits in front next to the chauffeur, but then he drives through the main gate and down the main drag, having summoned two policemen to knock the peasants out of his way.

Truly unbelievable.
