Racist police, racist politicians and now…even a racist eye surgeon

A young doctor, who happens to be black, worked at the state general hospital for two years before leaving Malta for a job in another country. He had a lot of friends at the hospital and one of them, a nurse, posted a photograph of him on her Facebook page as a sort of ‘we miss you’ gesture.

Others responded saying that they miss him too, until Melvin Gouder, by far their senior in his role of eye surgeon, popped in with ‘Dan bid-daghjsa gie nahseb’ (and eve spelled ‘dghajsa’ wrong).

Now I just have to ask – and there are many who will want the same answers – what are the disciplinary procedures for a surgeon at the state general hospital who targets a junior doctor with racial abuse on a nurse’s Facebook page, and on full public view?

And what cheap and unimaginative racial abuse, too. It is amazing how some of these Labour hamalli burn the midnight oil to become surgeons or eye surgeons or whatever, are exposed to a very different way of life through their studies and their work, go through very different experiences than they would have had they stayed wherever it was that they came from, and still remain impervious to it all, thinking, speaking and framing their views exactly like their siblings who never made it.

I know it’s not politically correct to say things like that, but now the phenomenon has become impossible to ignore, and ignoring it would be foolhardy.
