And here’s the official photograph
The green suit – which should have been left as it was – was apparently considered too plain, because somebody had the bright idea of cutting out some lace and appliqueing it on.
This is one of those moments when I am glad I was taught how to do this stuff as part of early training (for another world and another life), because it allows me to critique how clothes are made and put together.
So, here goes. Whoever appliqued that lace took a measuring tape and diligently measured one inch from each edge of the jacket and then tacked the lace in place one inch in from the edge.
But whoever it was forgot to take into account the overlap when the buttons are closed, and the result is that the lace on the button side is closer to the centre than the lace on the button-loop side. You can see this most clearly near the fourth button from the top.
What they should have done is close the buttons before measuring for the positioning of the lace.
But what they should really have done is forget the lace altogether.
