Phyllis Muscat should stick to selling Guinot and Mary Cohr. She gives women a bad name.
Police officers who were involved in the security operations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in 2005 are appalled by the lack of preparation and readiness. But they are not amazed. “Preparations and coordination only started around a month ago,” one said.
This would be around the time that former Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit stepped down from the post of head of security for the meeting, a post he had been given because he stepped down as Police Commissioner in June last year.
Before that, Phyllis Muscat’s chosen head of security was Kurt Cini, 33, a real estate developer who is in business with Charles ‘Caqnu’ Polidano and who was one of a group of developers who bought a tranche of land in Tarxien from Mintoff’s daughters for several million euros three years ago. Cini was heavily involved in the Labour Party’s general election campaign in 2013. He is a first cousin to Simone Cini of Super One (their fathers are brothers).
After his appointment was announced (and I made several attempts to speak to him), Kurt Cini then disappeared from view.
The other bit of news I can share this evening is that the Royal Family has sent its drivers and armed security to Malta already, three weeks ahead of the event, to get things organised. Apparently, Prince William was not too impressed when he visited last year for the 50th anniversary of Independence Day.
