President takes husband with her to UNESCO conference

The President of Malta is the only head of state/head of government/foreign minister who has taken her spouse with her to the UNESCO conference at which she signed the visitors’ book with a remark about “this sensittive time”.

The president is speaking live via this webcom right now.

Edgar Preca is sitting at his wife’s side in the seat that is supposed to be for the country’s ambassador to UNESCO. Malta’s Taghna Lkoll ambassador to UNESCO, Gozo-based Monsignor Joe Vella Gauci, is not there. The two seats behind the president and her husband are reserved for aides.

It is bad enough that Mr Preca has gone on the trip, which means that the public has paid for him to go. But to actually take him into the conference and have him seat in the ambassador’s seat is the most massive diplomatic faux pas – totally out of order.
