So now Malta is going to be Algeria’s Trojan horse in the European Union

And our idiotic prime minister says “the relationship they want to have with us is beyond our expectations; I am very satisfied.”

I am speechless.

Well, that explains the EU visas our government gave to 7,000 Algerians in just 18 months, and the opening of a consulate in Algiers in 2014 for what appears to be that express and sole purpose.

The cynicism is astounding. Instead of maximising the benefits of being in the European Union, in the context of the European Union, they view Malta’s EU membership – which they never wanted for its own sake – as a tradable commodity to be hawked around the world for everything from selling EU passports and Schengen Zone visas, to acting as an EU conduit and Trojan horse for Beijing, Baku, Qatar, Dubai and Algiers, to providing EU accreditation for cowboy colleges and Jordanian ‘universities’.

And the worst of it is that you never know who is getting paid under the table for what, precisely because these are not European Union member states or democratic countries that they’re dealing with, but regimes that are notorious for their corruption and abuse.
