So the government now depends on charitable donations to treat Hepatitis C, otherwise it can’t and won’t
Malta’s free medical health care service appears to be collapsing under the combined weight of Konrad Mizzi and Chris Fearne. Today it was reported in the newspapers – without a trace of irony – that the government can treat Hepatitis C patients at last because it has received a donation of free medicine through the good offices of the head of state, who has turned into somebody with a mission to provide alms to the government.
A charity run by the head of state, which donates money and goods in kind to the government to make it possible to govern? A national health service which is dependent on charitable donations?
So let’s just get this straight: Marie Louise Coleiro Preca has donated, through the Community Chest Fund, €1.2 million worth of medicine to the very government which has just spent €300,000 ruining the façade of the Auberge de Castille with a lighting tender given to a party donor and crony who was the sole bidder.
Roll on 2018.
