The prime minister said this morning that there’s no need for fuss because the two Syrian men stopped in Bergamo from flying to Malta did not have photos of the IS flag on their phones, but only a photo of “a fighter in Syria”.
And they were just using false passports – there are lots of false passports about, he said – to travel to Malta. You know, for fun. Because when you’re in mainland Europe’s Schengen area and can travel about overland between countries without using a passport, it really, really makes sense to try to get on a plane using a false passport to get to Malta, rather than to get out of Malta.
