Chris Cachia, an architect with a consultancy retainer at the Transport Ministry, started out on a generous €60,000 a year in 2013. Joseph Muscat appointed his cabinet on 13 March 2013, and on 14 March Transport Minister Joe Mizzi signed a deal with Chris Cachia giving him €60,000 for 12 months.
But on 1 January 2014, two and a half months before the previous agreement expired, the Transport Minister signed another one with Cachia, this time giving him €120,000 (not including VAT) for the following 12 months. And a generous allowance over and above that.
This is not a full-time job (and that would be very generous anyway) but just a consultancy. Chris Cachia is at liberty to carry on with his private practice.
