Forget the weather – what on earth was the idea, anyway?
Let’s leave the weather aside for a moment, and consider the very first thing that occurred to me when I heard the news about this tent supper near the temples.
Why on earth would anyone think it’s a fantastic idea to stick people in a plastic tent out in the fields at night, when there are so many excellent buildings, which are far more comfortable, in which to feed supper to a few hundred people?
It’s not as thought, sitting out in the dark emptiness wrapped in plastic, you get the sensation of being in the temples anyway. Of course, if they are floodlit, you will sort of see them outside, but who cares – the weirdness of being inside a marquee would have detracted from the view, and it’s not as though you are going to spend your entire evening staring at a floodlit set of stones rather than at the plastic flaps in front of your face.
That makes the considerable cost of setting it up even more frivolous than it is already.
