Here he is, the living embodiment of Malta’s messed-up reality: how to be a cabinet minister in the highly corrupt and violent governments of Dom Mintoff and Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, survive to be a cabinet minister in the whacked-out government of Alfred Sant 11 years later, and the survive even longer to find yourself appointed minister to Joseph Muscat’s cabinet and Malta’s Eu Commissioner two decades after that.

Malta is cracked. I mean, really cracked.
