Konrad and the nurses

What is Health Minister Konrad Mizzi up to this time?

Advertisements have appeared in the international press asking for nurses to apply for posts with the Malta government, on a two-year renewable contract at €30,000 a year for a 40-hour week.

Meanwhile, Maltese nurses are unionised and their pay and conditions of work are currently governed by a collective agreement which expires next year.

If this is all part of the changes being made with privatisation, then surely it is the company which will be running the hospitals that should be advertising for nurses, rather than the government itself?

Or maybe the government is planning to shift so many Maltese nurses to the company which is taking over some of the state hospitals that it has to cast about for reinforcements in the international market, so as to keep Mater Dei Hospital going.
