It’s not about the ‘investment’ but about the tender
The point at issue with the privatisation of state hospitals is not the “investment” but the way the tender was pre-decided in favour of Vitalis, who made it clear to systems providers and medical suppliers that they would be taking over certain hospitals before the government even issued its public call for proposals.
The Opposition needs to stick to that contentious matter because the Prime Minister is clearly trying to obfuscate the matter of how and why they are dealing with certain companies, and the even stranger and more mysterious chain of contacts which led to it, by banging on about negativity.
The government is one step away from portraying corruption and funny business as positive as long as it leads to “investment”, as with the power station.
The Malta Independent’s leading article yesterday was on the subject of bad governance, and this is the fundamental underlying factor that informs all of the government’s decisions. Even when the results seem “good” or have led to “investment”, the primary motivating factor will have been some privately-motivated deal of the nature which, in certain other European countries would have had politicians prosecuted.
