“My new best friend she is the Suha Arafat”
I can’t tell you what the captions say, but it’s clear as day that Mrs Michelle Muscat, the Spouse of the Prime Minister, was a very special family guest at the graduation of Yasser Arafat’s daughter from the University of Malta.
And Fersani, dress designers by royal appointment, have managed to capture and skin the world’s only known purple leopard to make The Spouse a dress għall-okkazzjoni.
Which brings me to wondering how Mrs Muscat feels about being around Suha Arafat, which makes her the second most famous spouse in the room by a long shot.
An observation: how much younger The Spouse looked just two years ago. Power and international jat-satting among the High Society of Malta are so ageing. Both she and her husband look 10 years older than they did in 2013. Her rictus was even scarier then than it is now, though.
Mrs Arafat was one of Mrs Muscat’s guests at her ladies’ lunch for Commonwealth Heads of Government WAGs at her husband’s office at the Auberge de Castille. So was her mother-in-law (“omm il-Prim, ħi”).
