The head of state plays the ‘woman victim’ card

In general, what the President says here is correct(few people know that better than I do). But in her particular case at present – as the head of state, not her former situation as elected politician or Labour Party secretary-general – she is completely wrong.

She is under heavy fire not because she is an assertive or opinionated woman, but because she is so tragically unfit for purpose as head of state. She cannot have failed to notice that the mockery and howls of criticism began when she became President. Nobody bothered about her behaviour when she was simply a member of parliament, though there were murmurs of criticism when she was a cabinet minister – for example, when she made that awful ‘Chinese shaming’ spectacle of the head of the Housing Authority, having called in the press for the purpose, over a missing soap-dish in an old woman’s shower cubicle in a Housing Authority flat.
