Konrad Mizzi hasn’t been elected yet, and he’s already behaving like the deputy leader
Konrad Mizzi, who refuses to answer questions about the issues which concern his position in the government, has now hit the press with a big interview about the Labour Party’s manifesto for the upcoming general election. The 2013 general election seems like it was only yesterday, and a big part of that is the fact that the ‘new’ government never seemed to settle down and has been lurching from one point of chaos, upheaval, scandal and corruption to another.
The country hasn’t recovered from the last general election, and three years into government, the man who isn’t yet deputy party leader is grinding up the gears and trying to take the country into election mode again.
He’s the worst person to do it, as we shall no doubt see eventually, because given the scale of what is going on with JosephKonrad and their deals with dictators near and far – and also with corrupt Maltese businessmen – the likelihood is pretty big that any upcoming scandal which will blow the Labour Party right out of the water is going to involve those two.
If Konrad Mizzi goes down in a corruption scandal, it’s now inevitable that Joseph Muscat will go down with him. Muscat has tied Mizzi to his hip from day one in government and is now working to make the bond as tight even in the party.
There’s something going on there, it almost certainly involves money, and there’s no way it can be kept hidden forever in this day and age. John Dalli managed to keep it hidden for years, yes, but he was operating in a different world. It’s not so easy to keep it hidden now.
