The torrent of corrupt nepotism continues: Robert Musumeci put in charge of the Lands Department

You could see it coming when the Prime Minister said – on Michael Falzon’s resignation – that he would seize the opportunity to change the government’s Lands Department into a Lands Authority.

Straight away you just knew that he had seized the opportunity to create a corrupt fiefdom for Robert Musumeci. And to make sure that no parliamentary secretary underling of his gets in the way with some ideas of how things should be done correctly, he replaced Michael Falzon with Deborah Schembri, who is controlled – pace the divorce lobby – by Robert Musumeci’s bosom friend, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, executive chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology.

The insult to the public is made greater by the fact that Musumeci is already the Prime Minister’s consultant and in that role he was also consultant to the Prime Minister’s underling, Michael Falzon. Musumeci actively defended Falzon in his handling of the Gaffarena debacle. Of course he did: Falzon’s elimination was the route by which he has secured full control of the Lands Department under the Minister for Lands, Joseph Muscat.
