The Prime Minister lies again: “Konrad had every intention of declaring the company”
The key lie that the Prime Minister and his Health & Energy Minister are using to defend themselves is that Mizzi’s intention all along was to declare his company in Panama to parliament. (Because you know how it is with normal people – they go to all the trouble of setting up a company in a secretive jurisdiction like Panama only to declare it to parliament.)
They have built an entire lying thesis around this: that the Nationalist Party had the information but released it now (through the Hate Blokker) to create a scandal before the innocent Konrad Mizzi declared his Panama company in parliament. Tosh. They had best stop it now before they embarrass themselves even further.
There is one document which, when it is published fairly soon, will blow their lying story out of the water. When he set up his top-secret operation, Konrad Mizzi had to fill in a form, with boxes to tick. He ticked the boxes for ‘No audit’ and ‘Total secrecy and confidentiality’. Oh, and he also ticked another box to confirm that he would NOT be using it to manage or contain assets from an inheritance.
The Prime Minister, speaking to his interviewer in The Malta Independent this morning:
The Opposition Leader said the companies were used to hide millions in them – he never said that this might have happened in the future. If he wanted to be sure of what he was saying he should have waited until the end of this month, until the declaration of assets. Simon Busuttil would have had a point, had Konrad failed to declare the company in Parliament. But I saw Konrad’s draft declaration, so I know he had every intention of declaring the company. He was going to follow the code of ethics to the letter. Maybe the Opposition Leader knew that Konrad would be declaring the company – and you do not declare something if you have the intention of hiding money in it – and he knew that if he waited until then the story would have died with the declaration.
The Prime Minister lies even about what the Opposition leader said. The Opposition leader said that the INTENTION of those asset-concealing vehicles is solely to conceal millions. And he’s right in that.
