The Confederation of Malta Trade Unions, the Medical Association of Malta and the Union Haddiema Magħqudin have demanded that the government

publishes all contracts and agreements related to the privatisation of Gozo General Hospital, St Luke’s Hospital and Karin Grech Hospital. The CMTU said in an official statement that before this is done, and those contracts and agreements are subjected to an independent audit, final agreements on employees’ working conditions should not be signed.

The Minister responsible for dealing with the foreign investors who will be taking over the hospitals is Konrad Mizzi, who has set up a secret company in Panama along with the Prime Minister’s chief of staff. The fraudulent tendering process for Karin Grech/St Luke’s Hospital took place after the government had concluded an agreement with Oxley Group already.

Godfrey Farrugia was kicked out of the post of Minister for Health and replaced with Konrad Mizzi before Prime Minister Muscat put into motion his plans to transfer the hospitals to private operators.
