LALIT MODI: his address in Malta
The television news report in India in my previous post shows Lalit Modi’s address in Malta as Flat 1, Heliopolis Court, St Paul Street, St Paul’s Bay. Further research gives the door number for the block of flats as 313.
St Paul’s Street is roughly as long as the St Paul’s Bay bypass and a scout who went down there this morning to find the building couldn’t do so by driving along slowly. If you know the building and can send in a photograph, please do so. Since then, this newspaper letter gives us a clearer idea of where it is.
But more pertinently, we need to know who owns Flat 1, Heliopolis Court. I very much doubt that a flamboyant money-laundering millionaire crook like Lalit Modi would be staying in a little flat on a traffic-ridden road in one of Malta’s lowest-rent neighbourhoods.
I think he was using that flat as a fictitious ‘paper address’ to qualify under the sale-of-citizenship scheme never actually slept there. There have been many other such cases which were revealed in the media.
Henley & Partners actually keeps flats on retainer to use for this purpose. One such penthouse is in a building owned in Swieqi by Anthony Busuttil, the man who took his young son away from his mother. Chris Cardona, the Minister for the Economy, dosses down in it in between borrowing flats from businessmen friends now that he no longer has access to the marital home.
