The Prime Minister and his chief of staff have left a man with Asperger’s Syndrome to face the music alone

The Minister for Health and Energy, Konrad Mizzi, clearly has Asperger’s Syndrome, which may not have been immediately apparent before he was catapulted into the news, with a sudden focus on him and his television appearances.

Yet the Prime Minister and his chief of staff, Keith Schembri, have left him to face the music alone. The Prime Minister is making a unique and highly controlled appearance on Labour-friendly Dissett on TVM tonight, and that’s about it.

Apart from that, for the past two weeks Mizzi has been chased around by the media and has been left to handle it in a flustered flap alone.

This is typical. I would say that the reason those two sharks are leaving him to drown solo is the very same reason they chose him as their human tool: his syndrome makes him extremely vulnerable to their control and orders.

That is exactly why he is coming across to many as the clichéd ‘robotic’ sidekick of your archetypal organised-crime boss in fiction films. Except that this is not fiction.
