While Chris Cardona hits one bar after another, his estranged wife works as a realtor

While the Minister for the Economy shuffles his blue mirrored shades between Hugo’s Lounge, Hugo’s Terrace, Level 22, the Stable, the City Lounge, Medasia and, occasionally, his office, his estranged second wife Lesya Cardona has gone to work as a realtor even as she looks after their two small children. (Cardona has another two children from his first wife, but produced the second set before he was divorced and remarried.)

Mrs Cardona, who is Ukrainian, threw the Minister for the Economy out of the family home in Madliena last year, and he was loaned a flat at Portomaso by his close friend and drinking associate Silvan Fenech of the Tumas Group.

When this fact was discovered and challenged on this website and in parliament, Cardona produced a hastily cobbled-together lease agreement which specified that the rent for the entire period of almost a year need be paid only when he vacated the premises.

I find this information particularly interesting because Cardona is the minister responsible for Malta Enterprise, and therefore, the minister responsible for the contract under which another cabinet minister’s estranged wife has been leeching the equivalent of 13,000 euros every month for the last almost three years.

Yet his own wife has not returned to Ukraine under a similar contract or sought any other position on the public payroll, but has gone to work instead as a realtor with Chesterton’s. This makes Mrs Konrad Mizzi’s behaviour look even more corrupt than it is already.
