Konrad Mizzi stars in the Greek press (as though Malta’s ambassador weren’t bad enough)

Konrad Mizzi is the only active EU minister whose name featured in the leaked Panama Papers.Shortly after his appointment as Malta’s Minister of Health and Energy in 2013, Mizzi set up Hearnville Inc, a Panama company. In June 2015, he set up an offshore trust in New Zealand, which became the shareholder of Hearnville Inc. His wife – Malta’s consul in Shanghai – and their two children were listed as beneficiaries.

Mizzi said Hearnville was acquired “to keep a property in London” which belongs to him and his wife.
“I have no money in the company. I have submitted myself been a tax audit. There is no secret bank account,” Mizzi said in Malta on Monday.

His office told Politico that “the company in Panama will close as soon as the tax investigation comes to a conclusion.”
