The Malta Labour Party’s “cedoli” (loan certificates)

I have received the following email from a reader, who owns a business importing cosmetics, with an attacked loan certificate from the Labour Party, dated 1994, when LM500 was a rather significant amount. These ‘loans’ from businesses were used to build the Labour Party’s headquarters in Hamrun.

Attached herewith please find copy of “Cedola amounting to LM500” which I was forced to loan to the Malta Labour Party.

Emmanuel Cuschieri came to my office and demanded this amount. I offered a donation of LM100, but he refused and kept on demanding a “loan” of LM500. At that time we had an advertising programme on Super One television/radio and it was almost impossible to refuse with consequences.
