Preparing for his May Day show of strength
This tent was being put up last night in Castile Place. Joseph Muscat, who the most recent surveys have shown has caused his party to haemorrhage 25,000 of the votes it had only three years ago, is preparing for a show of strength on May Day (Sunday).
And in a shockingly inappropriate decision replete with totalitarian symbolism, he will have his show of strength outside the Prime Minister’s Office – his own office as leader of the government, when he will be addressing his meeting as leader of the Labour Party.
When the Opposition leader called a meeting outside the Office of the Prime Minister, that was entirely appropriate, because it was a protest against the Prime Minister’s actions. But the Prime Minister cannot call a show of strength and of support for himself outside his own office. THAT is unheard of in a democracy.
It is because people don’t understand these things instinctively in Malta, and have to stop and think about it after it is pointed out to them (and even then they struggle), that the corrupt and anti-democratic Labour Party gets away with these violations of all that is normal in civilised and advanced societies.
The Labour Party is doing it because they want to drum up a vast crowd on the exact same spot where people protested against the government a couple of weeks ago. They want to compare photos and have some kind of an ‘I told you so’ moment for their brainless and brainwashed supporters to be smug about.
And the Prime Minister wants to do it because he’s under siege right now and wants the ego boost of tens of thousands of brainwashed people screaming and shouting their support under his office window.
This country is a disgrace.
