They’re no longer hidden, but they’re still secret

That’s what I wrote about for my column in tomorrow’s The Malta Independent: that the fact that Konrad Mizzi’s Panama company and New Zealand trust are no longer hidden does not mean they are no longer secret.

They are as secret as they were at the outset, just no longer hidden. We still don’t know, and have no way of knowing, what the company’s operations are, what bank accounts, assets and funds it holds, and we have no way of knowing. Nor do the authorities in Malta – and when he ceases to be a minister, the authorities will still have no way of finding out.

The fact that the Panama company is no longer hidden does not mean it is now exposed to scrutiny. It isn’t – at all.
