The latest in brass-necked cronyism: job created for Phyllis Muscat’s daughter at Malta High Commission in London
Phyllis Muscat’s daughter, Michaela Muscat – who lives in London – has segued neatly from a job with a Commonwealth organisation for which her mother pulled strings when she headed the Commonwealth Heads of Government Organising Committee 2015, to one which her mother organised for her at the Malta High Commission in London, with a little help from her best friend the Prime Minister.
The post, that of maritime technical attaché, was fraudulently advertised here by Transport Malta, which had no intention of selecting any of those who applied for it.
Phyllis Muscat’s husband and Michaela’s father, Paul Muscat, is on the board at Transport Malta, another crony appointee post-March 2013. His qualification for the Transport Malta board is his long experience driving the van which delivers the face-creams and other unguents which his wife imports.
Michaela Muscat has absolutely no experience, training or background in maritime law or shipping, and is currently at Transport Malta’s Grand Harbour HQ, trying to get a crash course in what the merchant shipping directorate does.
Also, because her employer is technically Transport Malta and not the Foreign Ministry, she takes up her attaché post at the High Commission without having to get through the examination and interview system for the foreign service.
As I reported last November, Phyllis Muscat has been unofficially named as Malta’s next High Commissioner in London, replacing Norman Hamilton whose term is up this summer.
