The EU Observer carries a report today about how EU Council chief Donald Tusk has warned that renegotiating the relationship between the UK and the EU could take up to seven years, if Britain votes on 23 June to leave the European Union.
While the exit has to be negotiated in two years, agreement on a new deal on relations between Britain and the EU would have to be approved by all the 27 national governments and the European Parliament, and this could take up to five years more. “And that would be without any guarantee of success,” he said.
The “withdrawal agreement” would include such things as tariffs on British goods and freedom of movement of people.
