David Cameron has said that he is stepping down
David Cameron, for whom the pledge for a referendum was largely the means for his own survival within his party (an irresponsible gamble on which he staked everything for himself, for Britain, for Europe and lost), has just spoken outside Downing Street and said that he will step down as party leader and prime minister. He will stay on for the next three months until a new party leader is chosen. They are now also talking about pressure for an early election.
A BBC journalist speaking outside Downing Street right now has said, accurately I think, that the entire Remain/Leave referendum has been driven and shaped by personal political ambition. “Did Boris Johnson opt for Leave because he believes it, or because he thought it would be good for his political ambitions?” she said, before going on to mention others.
