Farage’s ‘vote for freedom’ is actually a vote against it

One of the best comments that came in this morning:

People do not know or understand the value of their vote or how much it cost, in other people’s lives, for them to have it in the first place.

One of the most moving and convincing opinions published during the referendum campaign was by a World War II veteran. In a long and moving piece he made the critical point that everyone missed – voting to leave the EU is to spit on the graves of the dead. He didn’t put it quite that way, but that is what he meant.

Freedom is hard won and easily lost. I’m glad some people woke up to regret their decision and I hope they will live long enough to see the damage they have done. Unfortunately, those who will suffer most and longest are the young. Sixty-four per cent of those aged 18-24 voted to remain. Most of those aged 65+ voted to leave, but it is the former who have to live longer with the consequences of that decision.
