“I voted to leave and now I’m shocked”

The BBC is currently in a room in Manchester with a small group of electors, asking them how they voted and how they feel now. One of them said: “I voted to leave because I didn’t think my vote mattered. I didn’t think that Leave would win. Now I’m very worried about the instability that will follow. Yes, I’m really worried.”

Another Leave voter, wearing anything but a happy expression, agreed with a Remain voter who had just been interviewed, and said: “David Cameron kept saying ‘We’re not quitters’ but he was the first one to quit. I expected him to stay on and at least steer us through the instability that’s coming.”

Grave faces all round. I’ve been watching for two hours and have yet to be shown scenes of merriment, jubilation and happy celebrations. For a few seconds, Nigel Farage flicked across the screen but even he looked slightly concerned as he was jabbed in the chest by an ecstatic woman shouting ‘You did it!’.
