British public sees David Cameron’s children for the first time
David Cameron left Downing Street today, six years after he entered that famous address, and the British public – make that the world – saw his children for the first time. Yes, for the first time in six years.
In all this time, people were not even sure how many children he had, let alone their ages or what they are called, still less what they look like. Today, they were seen officially for the first time, leaving their home of the last six years with their parents: 12-year-old Nancy, 10-year-old Elwen and 5-year-old Florence.
David and Samantha Cameron’s eldest child, Ivan, was disabled and died seven years ago. He is the only one his parents have ever spoken of, and then only after his death. Before that, they protected his privacy along with that of their other children.
Compare and contrast with the way our Prime Minister and Mrs Muscat miss no opportunity to parade their children before the electorate, and have done so shamelessly ever since he became Opposition leader. For the last three years, their children have been permanently in front of the cameras, their mother seemingly unable to go to any engagement, publicity event or official visit overseas without them.
