Politico reports on a story broken by the French satirical newspaper Le Canard Enchaîné and later disseminated by Agence France Presse (AFP): that the French head of government pays his personal hairdresser almost €10,000 a month under a contract with his office, signed by his chief of staff.

By the time Francois Hollande reaches the end of his term of office, the hairdresser – named only as Olivier B – will have received around €590,000 in French taxpayers’ money for tending to Hollande’s locks. Olivier B travels with Hollande.

The contract binds the hairdresser to complete secrecy during and after his period of service, “on the work he has done and the information to which he has had access”.
