Neville Gafa, who has been reported to the police for corruption involving Libyan medical visas, is a close associate of Konrad Mizzi, Keith Schembri and Joseph Muscat
Read this news report about corruption in medical visas for Libyans, published in The Sunday Times today. Neville Gafa is not just any old health department official. He is a political appointee in a position of trust, who was installed in Joseph Muscat’s and Keith Schembri’s office at the Auberge de Castille immediately after the 2013 general election, and later, when Konrad Mizzi was made Health Minister following the sacking of Godfrey Farrugia, installed in the Health Ministry.
Neville Gafa was in the Prime Minister’s class at school and is part of the Joseph Muscat-Konrad Mizzi-Keith Schembri cabal. Over the last couple of years he has acquired a reputation as an under-the-counter fixer for those who want to get special access at the state general hospital and clinics.
You will note from the story in The Sunday Times that Gafa’s involvement in corruption for the issuing of medical visas to Libyans was brought to the attention of the Attorney-General, and that the matter was reported to the police by the permanent secretary at the Health Ministry.
Gafa, however, has not been relieved of his government duties. I tried to ring him this morning but he hit the disconnect button and then texted ‘Can you text me pls?’ (he doesn’t know my number). I texted back: “Yes. This is Daphne Caruana Galizia. Are you still in a position of trust at the Health Ministry?” He didn’t reply. So I texted him again: “Well, aren’t you going to reply? I’ll take that as a Yes then.”
He will now probably spend the rest of the week uploading pictures of witches on his Facebook Timeline, as he generally does.
This has got to be the most corrupt government of Malta ever.
