John Bundy and Joseph Muscat: the start of the bromance in May 2009

I noticed a long time ago that Joseph Muscat works on making straight men fall for him in the exact same way that other men work on making women fall for them. Because straight men have generally never received these sorts of overtures from what they perceive to be another straight man, their guard is down – if they received similar overtures from a gay man or from a woman, they would be on their guard and alert to what is happening – and they are instant victims.

Muscat doesn’t win support from straight men. He seduces them, and they’re not even aware of it. If they perceived him as gay, they would pick up those vibrations and run a mile. But because they perceive him as straight, they pick up the vibrations and read them as some kind of warm and wonderful bromance without the Brokeback Mountain connotations.

I am fascinated.
