Maltese fraudster arrested in Dubai is close associate of disgraced former European Commissioner John Dalli
Neville Spiteri, the former contractor who is on the run away from Malta because of fraud, and who will be arraigned in the Courts of Justice in Valletta today after being apprehended in Dubai, is a close associate of disgraced former European Commissioner John Dalli.
When John Dalli’s drug-trafficking brother Bastjan had his concrete batching plant and land seized by the Bank of Valletta and put up for auction, John Dalli hatched a little scheme in which he got Neville Spiteri to bid on his behalf (he couldn’t do so directly as he was European Commissioner at the time).
His was the winning bid, but then he failed to pay and when the bank tried to go back to auction, John Dalli and Neville Spiteri halted the process by objecting in court. The case eventually ended up before corrupt Judge Farrugia Sacco – who was allowed to retire unimpeached after the Labour Party delayed the impeachment process (his son is a Labour Party politician) – who ruled in Dalli’s and Spiteri’s favour.
Dalli’s and Spiteri’s bid for Mixer Ltd, Bastjan Dalli’s batching plant, was recently declared null and void by Judge Wenzu Mintoff in response to the Bank of Valletta’s petition for re-auction, on the grounds that they hadn’t paid what they owed. When you buy something at auction, you have to pay immediately.
You can read more about it here, in a post I had written about the story. You can also run an internet search on ‘John Dalli and Neville Spiteri’, which will call up the relevant court documents.
