UPDATED/Person let down by Prime Minister’s empty promises threatens to “blow up children and tourists” with home-made bomb

This afternoon I received the anonymous email below, sent from Sigaint public mail server. It is a copy of the original email which the sender claims he sent to the Prime Minister, copied to his chief of staff, Keith Schembri, and to the government’s communications chief, Kurt Farrugia, on 22nd July. At that point, it was also copied to several newspapers and media organisations.

They do not appear to have followed it up. I would say that the bit about the bomb is bluff, but there’s something about the tone that tells me this really is somebody who has been pushed over the edge by clinging in hope to the Prime Minister’s empty promises up ahead of the general election (the reference to five years, not three years) for the relatively small sum of 390,000 euros in compensation while watching others get their skyscrapers, their power stations, and their a la carte overnight compensation of millions for the fake expropriation of part of a house in Valletta.

Sending an email like this is a very serious crime (the threat is a crime, and using the means of communication to make a threat is a separate crime), and given its nature, I’m surprised we haven’t heard about it already in the news.

Of course, the fact that the person knows about Sigaint and bitcoins indicates this might be a hoax, but if it is, it’s a pretty serious one and a crime in itself.
