John Dalli and the Bahamas, Konrad Mizzi and Panama, Keith Schembri and the British Virgin Islands….

Aside from the content of this press release itself, just look at the picture the European People’s Party (the largest political grouping in the European Parliament, to which the Nationalist Party’s MEPs belong) has chosen by way of illustration.

The press release itself is not about shady Caribbean or Central American money-hiding jurisdictions. It’s about how Muscat claimed falsely on television that his party supported Tonio Borg’s nomination as European Commissioner.

But now the key triad that heads the Maltese government has become synonymous with the Caribbean. John Dalli and the Bahamas didn’t help, of course.

He told his villa landlord there – and it was reported in the New York Times three years ago – that he was looking to set up a trust in the Bahamas, in his daughters’ names, to “hold money coming from Dubai”.
