Toni Abela, who is soon to be appointed to the bench in Malta’s Courts of Justice, was deputy leader of the Malta Labour Party when this secret recording was made. He is heard explaining to unnamed associates how he covered up the crimes of individuals caught carving up a block of cocaine in a Labour Party club kitchen, and how the evidence – the block of cocaine – was disposed of.
He says that the individuals, who are not named, were immediately thrown out of the Labour Party club, but he did not report the matter to the police so as to avoid “trouble”.
