59% of those who will vote for the first time in 2018 think that this government is corrupt
The Malta Independent has commissioned a survey in which people were asked point-blank whether they think the government is corrupt.
The results: 47.02% do, 37.83% don’t, 13.45% are undecided, and 1.64% refused to answer the question.
Of those who voted Labour in the last general election, 22.1% think the government is corrupt, 65.1% don’t, 11.7% couldn’t answer, and 1% refused to reply. The number of 2013 Labour voters who think the government is corrupt has risen by almost 5% since April.
Of those who voted Nationalist in 2013, 80% think the government is corrupt, 11.5% don’t and 7.7% are not sure. The number of 2013 PN voters who think the government is corrupt has gone up by 7.2% since April.
Those who think the government is corrupt are broken down by gender into 48.6% men and 45.4% women.
The most worrying figures for the Labour Party are those which concern the 18-24 age cohort: 51.4% of them think the government is corrupt, a percentage that has risen astronomically – compared to other age cohorts – since April, when it stood at 36.1%.
The numbers of those who will be first-time voters in 2018 are starker: 59.1% of them think this government is corrupt and 22.7% of them are still making their mind up on whether the government is corrupt. It looks like Labour has gone from “I’m In” to “I’m in it up to my neck”.
